A Lifestyle Guide for San Pedro, California
The TRENDY Scene
San Pedro boasts sweeping hilltop views of the Pacific Ocean and the
United States’ largest seaport.  It imports the goods and keeps its
shopping secrets to itself … until now.
Here are the most fashion-
forward shops in town.

Joanne’s Closet
389 W. 6th St.
Downtown San Pedro
(310) 514-3219

A thoughtfully curated boutique of contemporary clothes for day and
night.  Pick out some just-hit-the-selling-floor jeans from True Religion or
Citizens of Humanity and pair them with an ultra comfortable Michael
Stars top or something sporty from Da-Nang.  Get cozy in a premium
Juicy Couture tracksuit.  Choose an elegant mesh dress by Weston
Wear for effortless nighttime glamour.

Captain’s Treasure Chest
29050 S Western Ave., #117
Rancho Palos Verdes
(310) 519-1856

A pirate watches over his treasure – and you – at the front door.
Survey the bounty of fine and costume jewelry for yourself and you’ll
find a match for any outfit or occasion.  Voted best jewelry store by
readers of two local newspapers, the family-owned shop prices its
classic and on-trend selections one-third below retail.

Mia’s Boutique & Design
1442 W 8th St.
Weymouth Corners, San Pedro
(310) 832-7522

The only constant in this inviting boutique is change.  Third-generation
owner Kristi Lopez stocks best-selling jewelry, handbags, and gift items
alongside a quirky variety of clothes, home decor, and seasonal
goodies.  An interior decorator, Lopez will custom design your drapes,
bedding, pillows, and upholstery.

Rok ‘n’ Ell
1438 W 8th St.
Weymouth Corners, San Pedro
(310) 832-4145

An enchanting baby boutique for little ones with big-time style.  The
fashionable infant-to-6 set can choose a glittery t-shirt declaring, “My
mommy is muy caliente,” “Mommy is my homegirl,” or “Studly.”  Pair it
with a camouflage skirt, some chic flats, sunglasses, a belt, even a
princess tiara hairpiece and something bubbly for bath time.

The Corner Store
1118 W. 37th St.
San Pedro
(310) 832-2424

Location of a recent photo shoot for the H&M catalog, The Corner
Store is the rustic-chic social center of the neighborhood.  Order a
coffee with a  sandwich, hot dog, or cup of soup, then sit down and
share your best local gossip with the regulars.  The marketplace is
brimming with everything the English palate could want: imported
British chocolates, teas, beef pies, condiments, porridge, biscuits,
canned vegetables, Indian seasonings, and more.  There’s an entire
wall of vintage and modern bottled sodas, from the original Jolt to
Japanese apple soda to spicy Australian ginger beer to Dr. Brown’s Cel
Ray celery soda for the truly adventurous.
Have your heard the news?  San Pedro was

From the harbor to the
runway: Luxe fashion
designer Rozae Nichols
The sights and sounds of the
Harbor Area proved inspirational
to award-winning fashion designer
Rozae Nichols.  Nichols is the
winner of the 2006 Moss Adams
Fashion Innovator Award at the
LA Fashion Awards.

Here are excerpts from the event
program about Nichols:

Born in Los Angeles, Rozae
Nichols grew up near the
docklands of San Pedro and
the oil fields of Signal Hill.  She
counts herself fortunate to have
come of age in what many
would view as an area of urban
blight.  "I love industrial
architecture," she says.  "There
are factories in Long Beach
and in Signal Hill that as a
child I used to fantasize living
within.  With all the smoke and
the oil refinery grasshoppers
up against these fenced in, dry,
grassy hillsides, the whole thing
looked like it might catch fire at
any moment.  It was dreadful
beauty."
